With strong business backgrounds peppered with a little crazy, this trifecta is bent on distilling quality spirits from the ground up from their facility in Goa. With Stranger & Sons being the predecessor to a variety of gins and rums coming your way, Third Eye Distillery promises to kick-start the craft spirit culture in India showcasing that India can make more than just its fair share of whiskey.
STRANGERS & SONS GIN
From Third Eye Distillery comes Stranger & Sons Gin, distilled in Goa, India! Botanicals include home-grown pepper, lemon and coriander, as well as a mix of Indian citrus peels led by Gondhoraj limes from Calcutta, which is sort of like a cross between a lime and a mandarin orange. Unused citrus is returned to the local supplier to be made into pickles or cordials, so there is no wastage. Hopefully Stranger & Sons won't be a stranger for long...
Aroma: Complex Indian spices are well integrated with piney juniper, nutty angelica, and lime-led zesty citrus.
Taste: Zesty citrus and assertive spice, but neither overwhelm the juniper.
Finish: Earthy and cinnamon-spiced with sweet liquorice.
Overall: A brilliantly conceived and executed gin that showcases predominetly Indian botanicals without masking traditional juniper and angelica gin botanicals. Best summarised as being traditional London dry in style but with dialled up Indian spice and citrus. Definitely in the must try category!
In a Gibson/ Gimlet. For a G&T, garnish with Lemon/Lime peels and pair with Fever Tree Indian Tonic.
