THE HISTORY & TERROIR
Gérard CHARVET is passionate about his vines and his wine. His family has lived in Chénas for over a century and has turned him into a meticulous winegrower. He keeps his wines in a combination of stainless steel vats and oak barrels and gets the best from both. Georges DUBOEUF has been buying his entire production since 1976. From a 29.7-acre vineyard with vines over 50 years old. Harvesting of Moulin-A-Vent Domaine des Rosiers is done manually, in whole bunches and the grapes are de-stemmed. Maceration lasts between 10 to 14 days and fermentation is conducted at temperatures between 82 F to 90 F. It sees 20% one-year-old French oak barrel aging.

TASTING NOTE

This deep ruby beauty is characterised by its intense dark berry aromas accompanied with floral scents of peonies and complemented by notes of spice. Its tannins have great finesse, giving the wine its power and elegance. A beautifully complex wine with superb length and firm tannins. Give yourself a treat and take the affair with this full bodied, structured wine. This wine has a brilliant garnet color. It is complex and elegant, with noes of toast, jammy fruits, vanilla and spices - and aromas of faded rose. Full bodied and structure, with firm tannins. Good aging potential.

FOOD PAIRING

This wine is best served with foods that boast earthy or spicy flavors. Enjoy it with slow-cooked beef ribs, game, spicy dishes or aged cheeses.

OUTSTANDING RECOGNITION & AWARD-WINNING

• James Suckling 93 points

This shows the focus and brightness of the 2016 vintage. Medium-bodied, tight and bright with sliced lemons and hints of flowers. Juicy and pretty. Drink now or hold.  (Feb 2018)

• Vinous 91 points

Youthful purple. Aromas of ripe dark fruits, candied flowers and smoky minerals, along with a spicy nuance in the background. Fleshy and well-concentrated, offering appealingly sweet black raspberry, boysenberry and licorice flavors that tighten up steadily on the back half. Shows appealing energy given its heft, and finishes sweet and long; dusty tannins sneak in late and meld smoothly with the dark fruit.  (Mar 2018)

• Wine Enthusiast 91 points

This wine has a smoky character that lies over the juicy fruit, adding extra interest and texture to this already structured wine. With solid tannins and rich red-plum and cherry fruit, this wine is still developing. Drink from late 2018.  (Mar 2018)

• Wine Advocate 90 points

The 2016 Moulin a Vent Domaine des Rosiers has a lovely cranberry and redcurrant-scented bouquet with subtle floral scents emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with fine tannin, very Beaune-like in style with superb acidity and genuine complexity on the finish. This is a delicious, very precise and impressive 2016 from Georges Duboeuf. (Aug 2017)
