2016 marks the first year where we have incorporated the Chenin Blanc from our newly acquired vineyard together with the original 70-year old vineyard. This vineyard was planted 45 years ago, which makes it the second oldest on the farm next to the original Chenin blanc vineyard. The Chenin blanc vineyard is now in its 2nd year of organic conversion period. Although the grapes are not as yet certified organic, the block gets farmed organically and according to the biodynamic principles. The wine is made with the same minimal interventionist way, as with all out other certified wines. The grapes were whole bunch pressed before light settling before natural fermentation occurred in a combination of 300l second-fill French oak barrels and a 2500l foudré.

The wine was aged on its lees for 10 months with a further two month ageing in stainless steel tank before bottling.
This wine has a bright straw hue with a lovely bouquet of orange blossom, lemon zest and floral notes. The palate has a beautiful freshness with hints of quince, pear and flinty notes. A smooth and balanced wine, with a long lingering finish.

In The Vineyard
The oldest vineyards on the Reyneke farm are two blocks of Chenin blanc, which are registered with the Old Vine Project and are between 44-46 years old, respectively. The vines are farmed and vinified according to biodynamic principles.

In The Cellar
The grapes are whole bunch pressed and lightly settled, before natural fermentation occurs in a combination of new and 2nd fill French barrique, as well as 2500L foudrés. After 10 months of maturation on the gross lees without any sulphur additions, the wine is racked from their vessels, sulphured and readied for bottling early in January.
