THE VINEYARDS

The wine marries Mendocino’s historic old-vine Zinfandel sites with vineyards in Paso Robles, Lodi and Amador County. Zinfandel lends a generous core of ripe fruit, accented by fragrant notes of spice box and sautéed herbs, while Petite Sirah imparts considerable density, minerality and an unmistakeable ruby-purple hue. In signature 1000 Stories fashion, this batch was aged in traditional French and American oak, with a portion finished in charred bourbon barrels before the final blend was assembled.


THE WINEMAKER

A leader in crafting wine aged in bourbon barrels, 1000 Stories melds California’s winemaking heritage with America’s storied bourbon culture. Expertly crafted by Master Winemaker Bob Blue from renowned California vineyards, 1000 Stories gets its acclaimed nuance and complexity from time spent in charred bourbon barrels—revealing a uniquely American story in every glass. Master Winemaker Bob Blue  was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for his 25-year dedication to sustainable vineyard management in The Drinks Business Green Awards 2014. 


BARRELS & AGING

1000 Stories begins its aging like most Zinfandels: in wine barrels. Then, the tradition transitions to innovation. Bob selects a combination of new and used bourbon barrels to complete the aging process. Each batch is crafted individually and is unique in its final profile.  Aging in bourbon barrels imparts characteristics of charred vanilla and dried herbs.


TASTING NOTE

2018 Zinfandel opens with black raspberry and cherry fruit, & notions of pepper & minerals on the nose. A decadent palate of berry fruit, vanilla, brown spice & toasty oak is framed by polished tannins & a rich, lingering finish. Combination of new & used bourbon barrels to complete the aging process. Aging in bourbon barrels imparts charred vanilla & dried herbs characters.
